Undecided about which class and chassis to campaign for the 2007 season, today we tested a 2006 Van Deimen Pro Zetec car at Lime Rock Park, CT. Cooper Pro Series driver, Doug Kniffin, arranged our test of his stunning Greisiger Racing #13 Zetec car. The new car was a pleasure to drive on the 1.53 mile rolling track. Differences between our current RF95 Formula Continental and the new Van Deimen are abundant. The new chassis utilizes a more powerful fuel injected Ford Zetec engine along with wider front and rear tires.

It did everything our current car did, only better and with more positivity. While the extra horsepower was not as noticeable as I’d anticipated it would be, throttle application was notably smoother and there were no flat spots in the rev range. Even with well-worn Cooper tires, I ran faster lap times with this car than I ever had in mine despite the short amount of seat time. It’s the type of car I could learn to love, quickly. The ergonomics were better, seating angle and shoulder room made the cockpit feel as if it were made for me and I especially liked the shift light arrangement on the steering wheel. Since it was a brief test, the pedal heights and footbox weren’t set-up for me, thankfully the rev-limiter saved me from a potential over-rev while braking deep into Big Bend.
