SVRA-FeatureMillville, NJ (Oct. 4, 2009) — The OPTIMA Batteries Sprint Series race came to an exciting close at New Jersey Motorsports Park’s 2.25mi , 14 turn Thunderbolt circuit. The action-packed race that saw the No. 40 Swift Formula Atlantic driver, Gregory Jezarian, earn a podium spot and win the prestigious Optimum Battery Hard Charger Award. Jezarian took the green in forth spot but lost two positions before turn one. “As soon as we went green, somehow the box got hung up between first and second gear,” Jezarian said, “that lost me two spots before I could get it going.”

As the field stretched out, Jezarian pressed on and out braked the sixth place car going into turn one and then reclaimed a few more spots before his car got noticeably loose. Crew chief Marco Santiago said, “When we saw him sideways coming on the straight, we knew it was time to change the strategy. I told him to soften the bars and try and stick it out. There’s not much we could do from from the tower but we could see most of the track and where he was losing time.”

As the remaining laps unfolded, the Jezarian began using more and more track and kicking up dirt when running wide. Despite the close calls and several particularly lurid slides, he manage to hang on until the checker earning a second place in class and the Hard Charger award for his car control.

“I went into the race knowing we didn’t have the tires to compete up front. By lap 5, I felt the tires just go away and my times dropped considerably. The crew had me soften the bars all the way and adjust my lines accordingly. I did the best I could with what we had and I’m happy with the result. Thanks to Matthew Biberman and his Big Sid’s Vincati support, we couldn’t have done this without your help.”
